Horse's Axe Throwing League (HATL)

About Our League

The Horse's Axe Throwing League (HATL) is our axe throwing league for people who enjoy  axe throwing and want to have some friendly competition each week. Axe throwers of all skill levels are welcome.

  • Each HATL season is 7 weeks of competition. The first 6 weeks, individuals will play best 2 out of 3 matches against another player.

  • Individuals will accumulate points from each round and be awarded points for wins and loses.

  • Overall total of points from the season will determine how players are seated on the 7th week playoff night.

  • The playoff night will be a double-elimination to crown the HATL season champion.

  • HATL is on Sunday nights from 6-8pm. League members can miss a week of leagues and matches will be rescheduled.

  • Absences will need to be sent to Erica Urban (axxie@nullhorsesaxe.com) 48 hours in advance.

  • The HATL season is $125 for 7 weeks of axe throwing and a FLANNEL! League Members will also receive League Member Benefits: 20% of merchandise and $15/hour axe throwing during non-league hours.

Rules For Horse's Axe Throwing League

Each game will be played on the rotating bullseye target and consist of 2 rounds of 10 throws. Each throw will count towards the total score.

On the 5th and 10th throws the blue dots must be called in ordered to be scored.  A player must inform their opponent before they throw their decision to call the blue dot or not.

If the same player has the highest score of both rounds then they are the winner. If a different player has the highest score in each round then they will throw a 3rd round of 5 throws. The player with the highest score of the 3rd round will be the winner. If the 3rd round ends in a tie, the players throw to determine who can get closest to the blue dot for the win.

Points are awarded for where the surface of the blade is stuck in the board. If the blade of the axe crosses the white line, it will count toward the numbered ring the white line is part of. The axe must be pulled by the player. If the axe falls before it is pulled, it will count as a miss.

Each match will be scored. Players total points for each match will be score from each round along with 10 points for a match win or 5 points for a match loss. Scores will be tracked along with wins and if the players called and hit/missed the blue dot.

Horse's Axe Throwing League Awards

The Horse's Axe Throwing League (HATL) is our axe throwing league for people who enjoy  axe throwing and want to have some friendly competition each week. Axe throwers of all skill levels are welcome.

  • Each HATL season we give our 3 awards for individuals axellent achievement during the season.

  • Most Improved is given to the player who has the largest improvement from week 1 to week 6.

  • The Blue Ox is given to the player who has the highest accuracy percentage for hitting the blue dot.

  • HATL Champion, aka winner of the golden axe, is awarded to the winner of the double-elimination playoff tournament.
